Fascinating true stories – a selection of the best

I have been writing a lot recently and some of the stories such as The Gorilla Who Was Brought up as a Boy in an English village were genuinely fascinating. These are all on Medium, where it is cathartic to just write about what I want. I also write a lot of, how can I put this… less interesting work. As I am a freelance writer, I suppose that is a good thing.

The gorilla story actually went viral, with 59,000 reads. This was the second time in about a month which was pretty awesome and probably my allotment for the year. I wrote about the previous time last month. I have written some other stories that I think are genuinely interesting – obviously, or I wouldn’t have written them – and thought I might as well present them here. So here are some of the best.

The Gorilla Who Was Brought up as a Boy in an English village

I thought I might as well start with this one. This is a really sad tale of a gorilla that was brought up as a human boy in northern England about 100 years ago.

North Korean 105-floor ‘Hotel of Doom’ Deserted for 30 Years

This piece is about a colossal hotel in North Korea that has been under construction for over thirty years. It was a bit embarrassing and was even removed from official maps as if it didn’t exist.

The Reindeer Who Lived on a WW2 Submarine

This is one of the nicer stories about- well, the title says it all. A reindeer on a submarine!

Stonehenge Was Originally Erected in Wales Then Moved To England

I am pretty good at titles because this one is also pretty self-explanatory. Researchers found where the earliest ring of Stonehenge originated. Spoiler alert – it was Wales.

Cuttlefish Pass the “Marshmallow” Psychological Test Designed For Children

This is pretty cool. Cuttlefish are smart and scientists are now discovering just how intelligent they are.

So there you go. Five of my more recent and interesting stories. I hope you enjoy these tales, if you happened to miss them the first time round.
